Many people are wondering whether it is normal for their headphones to get hot. The answer to that question is yes, it is perfectly normal for headphones to become hot. If you have been using your headphones for a long period of time, they will most likely get hot. Additionally, your headphones may also get hot if you leave them in a place where they can be exposed to the sun.

Headphones can be quite expensive so you want to make sure that you take good care of them. Below are some tips for taking care of your headphones so that they can last a long time:

Make sure that you unplug them when you are finished using them. This is one of the most important things that you can do to care for your headphones. It is very easy for you to break your headphones if you leave them plugged.

Clean them out at least once a week. You need to make sure that you clean your headphones out at least once a week. However, if you use your headphones often, you may need to clean them two or three times per week. The wax from your ears can very easily reduce the sound quality of the earphones.

Clean your own ears. Again, the wax from your ears can reduce the sound quality of your headphones. That is why you want to make sure that you keep your own ears clean.

Put your headphones in a case. You can easily break your headphones if you just put them in your pocket. You need to make sure that you headphones are kept in a small plastic case when they are not in use.

You do not need to worry if your headphones occasionally get hot. However, you do need to make sure that you take good care of them.

As digital information becomes an increasingly hot commodity among black market operations, email scams are increasing in number and sophistication. Most internet-savvy individuals can spot scams of the Nigerian royal family variety with little trouble. However, scammers that are more adept have moved on to tactics that are less obvious, such as spoofing bank sites or phishing for financial information via official-sounding correspondence. Here are a few tips for avoiding the more elaborate scam emails today.

Your Bank Never Asks for Password or Log In

Some scam emails mimic correspondence from your bank and request that you provide a password or user name in response. Often, these emails reference an issue with your account. The scammer may try to unsettle readers with warnings or information that will cause concern, increasing the likelihood that an account holder will act quickly by sending in the requested information. Once the scammer receives the information, they have access to your bank account.

It is essential to remember that reputable financial institutions do not ask for your password or log in information via email, telephone or letter. In fact, they should never ask for your password, and you should never share that information with anyone.

Keep an Eye on Your Browser Bar

Some scammers send an email asking you to log into your bank account to confirm information. The link they provide is a spoofed site. When you log into it, they are able to gather your username and password in order to access your account. Before logging into any financial site, including PayPal, always check the browser bar to ensure the address looks correct. It is also a good idea to avoid email links in these situations and navigate directly to the site in order to log in.

By spending a few minutes on caution, you can avoid many email scams and save yourself a great deal of time and hassle.

Toolbars can be helpful but they can also be a nuisance. Most browsers like Google and Firefox offer toolbars that users can customize to make surfing easier. However, there are also toolbars that install themselves without your permission and only serve to clutter your desktop. Here are basic tips on how to uninstall a toolbar from your browser.

Using the Windows Add/Remove Programs Utility

The easiest way for Windows users would be to use the Windows Add/Remove Programs option. To do this, you have to:

Make sure that all other windows are closed, especially web browsers

Click on the start menu and proceed to the ‘Control Panel’

Double click on ‘Add/Remove Programs’

Search for the name of the toolbar, and right click

Click on the ‘Uninstall’ option

Restart the computer if prompted

Using Uninstall Toolbar

You can find the ‘Uninstall Toolbar’ option in most reputable toolbars provided by Google or Yahoo since they come with their own uninstallers. The way to do this may differ according to the toolbar itself. For example, you can access the ‘Uninstall’ option in the Ask toolbar by going to the ‘Option’ button on the toolbar. For Google Chrome, go to ‘Help’ and click on ‘Uninstall.’

Removing Rogue toolbars

These are toolbars that you have not chosen to install but installed in your system anyway by riding on another application that you chose to install. Although most of these toolbars are more of a nuisance than anything else, they can take up space in your system, monitor your search habits, and submit the data to publishers of contextual ads. You can manually remove the toolbars and follow this up by running an antimalware scan on your computer to remove any components of the toolbar that were left behind. This will also prevent the rogue toolbars from reinstalling themselves. Use an anti-malware utility to automatically remove programs that are classified as malware or spyware. The best antimalware programs have the ability to classify some toolbars as spyware and automatically remove them and their components from your system.

Email is an essential part of the modern world. It is one of the quickest ways to communicate for business or personal reasons. It seems that almost everyone uses computers as part of their daily lives, and millions of people are online.

There are dozens of types of email services out there, but it is impossible to say that one of them is superior to others. What type of service is best depends on your needs. Different users have different needs. First, you should consider if they need a free or paid service. The difference is usually the presence of advertisements in free email services.

Inbox space is another aspect to consider. If you send and receive a lot of emails (especially with big attachments), or plan to keep a great deal of your correspondence for reference or personal reasons, you will want more space.

In addition to essential features like inbox space, you might want extra features. Some programs allow you to change fonts, colors, and more. You will usually be able to insert photos or clip art into your emails, or attach them to emails. However, the service might limit your ability to attach to a certain amount of data.

If staying mobile is important you might want to consider the options when it comes to being used on a mobile device. Some programs have a special platform for viewing and use on a cell phone, tablet or other mobile device.

There are many options to consider when choosing a program to use for business or personal email. What choice is best for you depends on their needs and preferences.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the most popular free email services by these aspects:

Gmail is the most popular service that provides over 7.5GB (and constantly increasing) of space for your emails, it has a convenient interface and allows POP access to connect with your email client (ex. Outlook), and it has mobile access

Yahoo! Mail offers unlimited storage for your emails and is also easy to use if a bit clunkier than Gmail, it also has mobile access but it does not include the POP access in its free version

MSN Hotmail offers pretty much the same features as Yahoo! does but it also includes POP access

In Windows, it is a simple matter to learn how to lock (password protect) your computer. A password protected computer cannot be accessed without the password being entered. Having a password will prevent unauthorized viewing of your computer files, computer history, and other personal information. You might also want to create multiple user accounts on one computer, each of them being password protected. For our purposes, we are going to assume that you are running the latest version of Microsoft Windows, which is Windows 7. These instructions will also work for those who are running Windows Vista.

Click on Start.

Click on Control Panel. Although there are a few ways to view the items in the control panel, we will assume you are viewing them by category. To confirm that this is so, locate the View by drop-down menu. You can find it in the upper right hand corner of the window. If it is not already selected, select Category.

Click on Add or Remove User Accounts. You will find this option under the category User Accounts and Family Safety. A window will appear titled Choose the account you would like to change.

Click on Create a New Account. If there are already accounts established on your computer, this option will be beneath the list of current accounts.

Find a box labeled with the words New Account Name. Type the name that you wish to assign to the new account.

- Click the radio button to indicate whether the account holder will have standard or administrative permission on the computer. Keep in mind that the administrator can make changes to the computer.

- Click on Create Account. This will create the account. The account will be displayed in the user list.

- Click on the account icon and then click on Create a Password.

- Choose a password for the account. You can also choose to add a hint that will remind the user of the password if they should forget.
The password protected account is now ready to use. If you are not creating an account and want to password protect the computer for just the administrator (you), then just follow this pathway:
Control Panel ? User Accounts ? Create a Password for Your Account ? and then follow the prompts.

There are times you wonder why the guys who produce viruses and malware cannot make better use of their time and skills. Let’s face it, life would probably be much better for these guys (and everybody else) if they will simply channel their creativity to more legitimate ventures. In the past few weeks, creators of malware have managed to come up with an invention called the Flashback Trojan horse. At the last count, over 600,000 Macs had been infected by this virus.

Somehow, we cannot but marvel at the ingenuity of the guys behind this virus. The Flashback Trojan horse can simply disguise itself as different software and ask the Mac user to install the program. By double clicking on the icon, the Mac gets infected. In other cases, this malware can take the form of a certificate signed by Apple Inc. if the user clicks continue, the Flashback Trojan horse installs itself and proceeds to harm the system.

In some cases, the virus can cause the web browser to crash. In other cases, malware can sniff out vital usernames and passwords. These include sensitive ones like the ones on your banking sites, e-mail and PayPal records. With this information, the hackers behind this virus can proceed to carry out some illegal activity on the account of people whose username and passwords they have stolen.

Fortunately, Mac users can now heave a collective sigh of relief. This is because Apple has made good on its promise to come up with a solution to combat the Flashback Trojan horse. Apple needs to be commended because the solution they have come up with is very effective and user friendly.

The Apple solution is a simple matter of downloading the latest security update. This will make you Flashback proof immediately. Another wise step will be to download F-Secure’s diagnostic and removal tool. This will wipe out all traces of Flashback and make the system clean and safe again.

Laptops are great to have at home or on the road. Battery life is no longer an issue, especially in netbooks that can now last up to ten hours. There are a lot of issues that affect battery life – wireless options being turned on, faster processor speed, etc. The most important issue is brightness of the screen. In fact, it is the screen that consumes a lot of power, so it is important to lower the brightness if you want to conserve battery life to last longer while unplugged.

Every laptop is different, so adjusting the brightness will be different from the steps mentioned in this post. However, you can understand the steps involved in this process, thus helping you do so on your own.

First off, many laptop manufacturers have hardware keys that let users increase or decrease the screen’s brightness. These are usually located on the keyboard and are clearly marked. If you are unable to find them then it is a good idea to consult the user manual. However, if they are not indicated in the manual then your laptop lacks such keys.

In that case, you can use the function (“Fn”) key in conjunction with another key. Some manufacturers place these keys on “F5” or “F6”, or sometimes the arrow keys. Whatever the case, you need to look for keys that have pictures of a sun or a half moon – they are identifiers of brightness.

You can also change the screen brightness from within Windows itself. If you are using Windows 7 then go to “Control Panel”> “Power Options” and choose “Edit power plan” option. There are sliders for adjusting the screen brightness right there. You can save the brightness for future reference as well.

Changing your laptop’s screen brightness is hopefully no longer an issue. Simply look for the hardware keys or use the function keys on your keyboard. You can also use Windows 7’s power options to set the screen brightness.

Your personal computer is a necessity for you. It allows you to email friends, family, potential jobs, etc. It allows you to surf the Internet, keep up with social media sites, find weather conditions for your area, and sometimes can even allow you to make phone calls. It holds all of your important documents and contact information for friends and family. It is your number one tool. You should keep it protected, but you should also know how to tell if you have a computer virus.

How to tell if you have a computer virus by asking yourself these questions:

Does your computer run slower than normal? If it does, you could have a virus. The virus in the computer can cause the system to run slower because the virus is running as well as the other programs.

Are programs starting automatically? If you are getting unexpected messages or programs are starting to run without you clicking on them, you could have a virus because the virus can cause damage to the operating system or the files.

Does your hard disk or modem work too hard? This could be caused by email viruses. These viruses work by making and sending copies of itself to your email contact list. To check for this problem, look at the activity light on the modem. If it is constantly lit, you could have this virus. Another indicator is that the hard disk is always working. The hard disk has a fan inside to keep it cooled down. If the fan is continuously running or runs loudly, you could have a virus.

Having just one of these symptoms does not always mean you have a computer virus, but if you have more than one symptom or other symptoms, you should consider scanning your computer for viruses. Knowing how to tell if you have a computer virus is important. Using an anti-virus program can keep viruses at bay and keep your computer running smoothly.

Someone asked me just today about why their computer locks up when downloading files. Well, there can be many causes of lockups, especially when you are trying to get files from the Internet. For example, one person has this problem: “When i go to the windows updates site or they download in my system tray, at some point my computer locks up.”

Yet another person has this problem: “I have a good internet connection via my university. However my computer usually crashes when downloading from servers that I can get a good xfer rate from. Often when I download with a speed above 500 kb/s the computer locks up, the same thing can happen if I do several downloads at the same time even if they are going slower. What happens is that the screen freezes, I can’t do anything and I have to do a hard reboot.”

At this point, I don’t have an answer, but I will keep you posted, as I am researching the problem now.
