How to Adjust Screen Brightness of My Laptop?

1

Laptops are great to have at home or on the road. Battery life is no longer an issue, especially in netbooks that can now last up to ten hours. There are a lot of issues that affect battery life – wireless options being turned on, faster processor speed, etc. The most important issue is brightness of the screen. In fact, it is the screen that consumes a lot of power, so it is important to lower the brightness if you want to conserve battery life to last longer while unplugged.

Every laptop is different, so adjusting the brightness will be different from the steps mentioned in this post. However, you can understand the steps involved in this process, thus helping you do so on your own.

First off, many laptop manufacturers have hardware keys that let users increase or decrease the screen’s brightness. These are usually located on the keyboard and are clearly marked. If you are unable to find them then it is a good idea to consult the user manual. However, if they are not indicated in the manual then your laptop lacks such keys.

In that case, you can use the function (“Fn”) key in conjunction with another key. Some manufacturers place these keys on “F5” or “F6”, or sometimes the arrow keys. Whatever the case, you need to look for keys that have pictures of a sun or a half moon – they are identifiers of brightness.

You can also change the screen brightness from within Windows itself. If you are using Windows 7 then go to “Control Panel”> “Power Options” and choose “Edit power plan” option. There are sliders for adjusting the screen brightness right there. You can save the brightness for future reference as well.

Changing your laptop’s screen brightness is hopefully no longer an issue. Simply look for the hardware keys or use the function keys on your keyboard. You can also use Windows 7’s power options to set the screen brightness.

    Hi there,

I usually have two buttons right on the front row of keyboard. I adjust brightness from them. When I’m reading PDF files, I dim them a little on purpose. Too much brightness causes eye strain. BTW I use N53SM-ES72.
