What is the Best Email Service?

Email is an essential part of the modern world. It is one of the quickest ways to communicate for business or personal reasons. It seems that almost everyone uses computers as part of their daily lives, and millions of people are online.

There are dozens of types of email services out there, but it is impossible to say that one of them is superior to others. What type of service is best depends on your needs. Different users have different needs. First, you should consider if they need a free or paid service. The difference is usually the presence of advertisements in free email services.

Inbox space is another aspect to consider. If you send and receive a lot of emails (especially with big attachments), or plan to keep a great deal of your correspondence for reference or personal reasons, you will want more space.

In addition to essential features like inbox space, you might want extra features. Some programs allow you to change fonts, colors, and more. You will usually be able to insert photos or clip art into your emails, or attach them to emails. However, the service might limit your ability to attach to a certain amount of data.

If staying mobile is important you might want to consider the options when it comes to being used on a mobile device. Some programs have a special platform for viewing and use on a cell phone, tablet or other mobile device.

There are many options to consider when choosing a program to use for business or personal email. What choice is best for you depends on their needs and preferences.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the most popular free email services by these aspects:

  • Gmail is the most popular service that provides over 7.5GB (and constantly increasing) of space for your emails, it has a convenient interface and allows POP access to connect with your email client (ex. Outlook), and it has mobile access
  • Yahoo! Mail offers unlimited storage for your emails and is also easy to use if a bit clunkier than Gmail, it also has mobile access but it does not include the POP access in its free version
  • MSN Hotmail offers pretty much the same features as Yahoo! does but it also includes POP access

I use thexyz which is 100% ad-free, secure and they do not sell your details to third party advertisers like other services for the simple reason it is ad free. It does cost me a few bucks a month but I think it worth it for the added security. I like how clean it makes me feel to use webmail that doesn’t try and sell me a tractor or wedding dress.
